Hello. How are you? We need to talk. You can mail me. Don't hesitate. Just casually. We will get to know each other. My name is Chae. Not like chai tea, but a longer "ay" sound. A high school history teacher used to call me Che Guevara, a nickname I never liked it, but if that helps. But I have a proper name. Chae Yun Ahn. Both my given and family names, in full, were chosen by my grandfather. I was born in Bangkok, raised in Indonesia, educated in Lausanne, and rooted in Seoul. Quite international, but there are many places remained unvisited. I hope to reach them eventually. Mongolia, Scotland, Poland, Czechia and many places. I draw Thai script this year, mentored by Boom. I am interested in other scripts. Having grown up in the tropics, I bloom in bright summers and dim in dark winters. Lausanne was my first European city, where I studied masters and swam in the lake Geneva. I make typefaces. I studied Type Design at ECAL, where I finally found a field I'd long searched for. For two years, I made typefaces and coding projects, I am currently writing a thesis on Hangul cursive and handwriting style. My dissertation comes from my interest since I draw both Latin and Hangul. I like to draw on paper with broad-nib pens and Hangul brushes I like to look at the world through the lens of typography. Gerard Unger's While You're Reading opened another door for me. If you're a fan of that book, we'll have a lot to talk about. We can talk about jazz, design, and running. I run every day to clear my mind. I also code. Coding is another form of writing, one that opens doors to friends and community. I host HTML Day in Lausanne.
